Mountain + goats

October 1, 2013

Last weekend I went to Ashburnham with my parents to hike Mt. Watatic (1800 ft).  We’ve been having such nice fall weather over here (sorry Oregon!) and I was really excited to get out of the city for a bit.

We took the steep route up and quickly had nice views of the area (we were right near the NH border).CIMG2329

We got considerably lost on the way down, but some nice people helped us out.  Basically we just added another 45-minute up-and-down to the hike.  We were hurrying a little at the end because we had another stop planned for the way home:CIMG2338

We were there for the cheese, not the sawmill service.

We had read that visitors were free to wander around, say hi to the goats (and really fuzzy sheepdog – goatdog?), and buy cheese at the self-serve store.

We got a delicious orange/cranberry cheese and some oatcakes for a snack, and took a log of garlic and herb cheese home.  It was really good, but nothing beats Ferns Edge in my mind.

The goats were my favorite part.  Just look at those faces!CIMG2334

Ahaha, that last one kills me!
