The Highlands

August 19, 2012

No, Eugeners, not the bar.

The real Highlands.  I really wanted to go explore the northernmost reaches of Scotland, but my parents thought that would be a lot of driving in a short amount of time.  We compromised on one giant day of driving where we looped up north to the southern tip of Loch Ness before going back south to Inveraray:image

We started with more Monty Python castles:CIMG1441

And stopped at Ben Nevis for a mini-hike.CIMG1454

So pretty.CIMG1451

We walked up a little bit just to stretch our legs out.  If we had more time I would have liked to go all the way up!

We drove on to Loch Ness, just because I had to say I went there.CIMG1456

This was clearly right before it started raining.  Nessie, where are you?

We drove back through Glencoe and along this absolutely gorgeous stretch of highway.  We knew it was going to add on time/distance, but it was so worth it.  Even if I did need to pull over for some tea at one point to keep me going.CIMG1457

And then we arrived in Inveraray, where we would stay for essentially the remainder of the trip.  It’s a tiny town.CIMG1465

We had dinner at the Cottage Restaurant (left, behind the silver car), which was very local and just what we were looking for after a long day on the road.CIMG1463

Does that mean there was no Packer game on in the Highlands?
